In the first instance you should contact a qualified pest
control contractor who will deal with the infestation and
advise on any possible entry points, if the rat infestation
persists it is likely to be drain related and that’s where we
come in.

After putting poison and traps down we get a few months
without any activity and then the rats return, why?
You are dealing with the current infestation but because
rats leave a scent trail others will always follow, the only
permanent solution is to find how they are entering your
home via the drains and close the door once and for all.
I have had a drain survey carried out and they could not
find how the rats are getting into my home.
We hear this all the time i am afraid because the quality of
drain inspection surveys with regard to rat activity is
generally poor, simply surveying the main drains and
reporting that they did not see any rats is not sufficient.
Why would you be able to find defects that other
contractors have failed to locate?
Over 30 years we have developed techniques to ensure we
can survey every part of a drainage system to find any
defects, these include techniques to divert the drain
cameras into blind junctions and connections and access
the drainage system when there are no inspection
chambers.
When you find the problem, how can you fix it?
There are several no-dig solutions to resolve rat ingress
within properties but sometimes the only solution is to
excavate, a detailed drain inspection survey will give us all
the information we need to be able to advise as to the best
method of repair for your particular problem.
Can you put a valve in the drains that stops rats entering
my property?
There are valves on the market for this and we do install
them on occasions, however they will not solve secondary
issues such as the drainage system venting into your
property via the defective drain and associated tunneling by
the rats nor will they stop drain fly infestation via the same
route.
The valves can also cause blockages on drainage systems if
not installed in the correct location and for this reason most
of the water companies will not allow them to be installed
in their network (which includes all shared drainage
systems). We would always strongly recommend that the
actual defect that allows rats to leave the drainage system
and enter your property be located and fixed.
